Claire Muphy

Director

Claire is a language and literacy specialist who has worked with high school-aged students for over 20 years. Her strengths lie in her ability to understand the challenges young people with dyslexic learning profiles face on a daily basis. This allows her to establish supportive relationships with her clients so that they can trust in the evidenced-based approach used in sessions whilst simultaneously building on their self-esteem and belief in their own potential. Claire is an advocate for people with language and learning difficulties and in turn her high expectations and unwavering championing of her clients means that they too develop the confidence to advocate for themselves.

Claire’s background is in languages and teaching English as a second language. She completed her Masters in TESOL but always wanted to know more about how to teach students to read, in particular those students who arrived in high school still learning to read instead of reading to learn. She has had the role of Learning Support Coordinator in several schools and has always had a very pastoral focus in her work. In 2015 she completed her Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) training and is qualified as an Associate Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA).

Claire’s management experience in developing resources and systems to support students who learn differently and collaborating with teachers, specialists and families means that she is well placed to support educators who have a passion for literacy support but are not quite sure of where to start to begin their own business. She enjoys the challenge of finding solutions to ensure that educators have the systems in place so they can spend more time and energy doing what they love; working with their clients.

Sonja O’Connor

Director

Sonja is a dyslexia specialist with extensive experience working with both students and teachers across primary and high schools. Sonja has established herself as an expert in her field. She has been driven by a passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals with learning difficulties throughout her 25 years of experience in the field of Education. Despite earning a Master’s degree in Special Education early in her career, Sonja found that it did not adequately prepare her to support students struggling with reading and literacy skills. Determined to fill this gap, she embarked on a journey to research best practices for reading intervention.
In 2014, Sonja completed her Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) training and became an Associate Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA). Her dedication to enhancing her expertise led her to further study with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators in the United States, where she has trained to the Certified level and is an accredited member. Committed to staying abreast of the latest research, Sonja regularly attends conferences and training sessions with field experts. In 2018, she visited the United States to observe schools implementing best-practice teaching methods and attended the prestigious International Dyslexia Association conference.
Sonja has extensive experience working as a consultant in both public and private schools in Australia and internationally. She provides professional development and consultancy services focused on identifying learning difficulties, teaching reading and spelling, and implementing evidence-based reading interventions. She collaborates with schools to develop effective learning support policies and practices believing that updating teacher knowledge in the field will have the greatest impact on improving literacy for all students.
Sonja is highly qualified to provide therapy for individuals with dyslexia and to work with educators to enhance their skills in teaching reading, supporting students with dyslexia, and implementing research-based interventions.
